Kindling Words is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization. We are careful to keep the costs in balance with our expenses. The tuition for the week at KWW 2018 is $415.
As always, if finances are keeping you from coming, there are a limited number of tuition scholarships available. (And if you can donate to the fund, your gift allows a colleague to come just when they might need it most!)
Kindling Words West in Scotland is a full 7-day week, and timed to dovetail into the last few days of the Bologna Children’s Book Fair.
But to make it all even better, we are offering an extraordinary Pre-Ramble, visiting sites across the UK that are important to children’s literature. (The Pre-Ramble is independent from the KW Scotland retreat.) The week-long Ramble begins early on the 13th of March, and touches in on more than a dozen children’s books or authors, from Northumbria to Oxford, Stratford-upon-Avon to the Lake District.
DALHOUSIE CASTLE AND AQUEOUS SPA
is a magnificent 13th century fortress just 8 miles from Edinburgh’s city centre. Set within acres of wooded parkland on the picturesque banks of the River Esk, Dalhousie Castle has luxurious surrounds, and holds the title as ‘Scotland’s Oldest Inhabited Castle’.
From the moment you arrive, you can expect a warm Scottish welcome and a truly memorable experience.
INDIVIDUALLY DESIGNED CASTLE BEDROOMS
Within the castle walls Kindling Words has reserved 20 individually designed bedrooms, with soft Egyptian cotton bed linen, fluffy towels, robes, slippers and Molton Brown toiletries. These are decorated in Scottish design fabrics such as tweed, tartan and twill. Period furniture, rugs and carpets combine to create a richly warm and luxurious feel.
THE DUNGEON RESTAURANT
A completely unique dining experience in our ancient barrel-vaulted dungeons. Awarded 2 AA Rosettes, our menu is a modern interpretation of classic Scottish dishes cooked and prepared in a classic French cooking style, whilst using locally sourced produce.
THE AQUEOUS SPA
The intimately sized spa combines relaxing and therapeutic treatments designed to invigorate and rejuvenate your body and mind. We are delighted to use Darphin products throughout the spa.
