Kindling Words hosts Candlelight Readings on Saturday night, where we get an extraordinary view of work that is not available yet to the public. The celebration features polished, but not yet published work. Illustrators present visually and authors share a reading of their work.
Authors who wish to present must come prepared a polished but not published piece of up to 250 words, and illustrators may show up to 10 images.
Note for author/illustrators - you may choose to either read or present slides, but due to time limitations, we're not able to accommodate not both. Thank you for your understanding!
Choose up to 10 pictures that show your work. You could include: slides from a book that is under contract and finished, but not yet out; slides from a book that is fully developed, but not yet under contract; slides from polished personal work that might have nothing to do with children's books; concept, development, or sketch work that could stand alone as a piece of work.
You can have all your slides from a single book, or show slides from several. You should avoid casual sketches, or a "greatest hits" show. This is meant to be deeper and more intriguing than that. Ideally we want to encourage illustrators to show work that embodies the passion and heart of a project. You may add text to your slides if you like, although it's not required. Important note: Each slide will be seen for only about 6 seconds, so if you do add text, keep it brief. Your illustrations should be the stars of this show. Please name files with your LAST NAME and a number (e.g. Smith1.jpg, etc). Thank you!
