Kindling Words East is a rekindling event for authors, illustrators and editors working with a traditional children’s book publisher. In recent years, we have had far greater demand for this retreat than we have spaces, and we’ve implemented an application to attend.  All eligible participants may sign up for the email list to receive a notification before the application opens in early September.

Historically, Kindling Words East has generated a great deal of excitement, and we usually are able to accept a third of the people who apply.  When reviewing applications, we take many factors into account including when the application was completed and the application itself.  We strive to intentionally create a diverse, balanced, and engaging community that reflects a range of identities and experiences.  Additionally, we keep a waitlist after the initial registration, and we contact people as spots open up.

After January 1st, any people still on the waitlist in the New England area will be shifted to a last-minute spot group, no matter how far down they are on the wait-list. When a last-minute spot opens, they will be notified by email.

We will be offering a limited number of scholarships for tuition only and for tuition and hotel fees; there is an opportunity to indicate in the application whether you would like to be considered for a scholarship.
