Cost for Kindling Words East 2024

The total cost of KWE 2024 (including tuition, retreat & hotel room) will be $1,000 for a single room, or $798 if you share a hotel room with another attendee.

Kindling Words is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization.  We are careful to keep the costs low to just balance our expenses.

The overall cost to attend is similar to past years, but the structure is different, so we are detailing the breakdown below.

The total cost above includes:

  • $595 tuition/retreat fee (paid at registration, refundable through 12/15/23), which covers:
    • tuition (speaker, staffing & programming costs)
    • conference/meeting room rentals, taxes and gratuity
    • dinners on Thursday, Friday and Saturday
    • lunches on Friday and Saturday
    • Brunch Sunday morning*
      • *To keep costs down, we are not providing official breakfast on Friday & Saturday through the hotel, but we will have yogurt & cereal available in the party suite, and there are options at nearby restaurants as well as the option for guests to order a hot breakfast from the hotel kitchen on their own.
  • $405 per single hotel room for three nights total, paid directly to Hotel Providence
    • The individual nightly hotel rate is $135/night, including all taxes.
    • If you would like to split the cost with a roommate, you may arrange a double room.
    • The hotel will charge one night’s fee upon reservation (refundable through December 15, 2023), and you will pay the remainder directly to the hotel upon arriving.
    • We have committed to our attendees filling all of the hotel rooms for the days of our event – we’ve got it all to ourselves! Our attendees have also found at past retreats that they get the most out of their experience when they stay at the hotel, so please be sure to book your room as soon as you register.

Scholarships

If you are hard-pressed to come, we offer scholarships to cover $275 of the tuition/retreat fee, and we offer payment plans for the remainder – please contact us at kwe@kindlingwords.org for more information.

If you are having an abundant year, we welcome gifts to the scholarship fund.  A gift to the fund is a gift to the entire Children’s Literature community.
