Kindling Words is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization. We are careful to keep the costs in balance with our expenses. The tuition for the week at KWW is $430.
As always, if finances are keeping you from coming, there are a limited number of tuition scholarships available. (And if you can donate to the fund, your gift allows a colleague to come just when they might need it most!)
Kindling Words West is a full 7-day week, held each year in April. Tuition is kept to a minimum, $430. We are lucky to be hosted by Whidbey Island Institute, who is renowned for putting on tremendous programs for groups like ours. Their food alone will change our lives!
Room/Board
WHIDBEY ISLAND INSTITUTE
is a home for transformational learning. On a 106-acre forested campus, the Institute’s inspired architecture opens the indoors to the outdoors and invites rich contemplation.
Cabins and Cottages
The accommodations at the Institute are evolving, with the rich heritage of the retreat’s history. Some rooms are in one of two comfy, rustic cottages, complete with living rooms and kitchens. There is also a ring of tiny cabins, most of which are newer, with a fresh, Scandinavian design. Bathrooms are shared either a short walk away, or adjoining two rooms. The “vintage” rooms (the cabins and older cottages) are priced lower than these newest rooms.
ALL INCLUSIVE COSTS
The lodging cost below includes all room, board and taxes. If you would like to share a double room, please sign up with a Kindling Words Eligible friend, or ask for a roommate. There are many places throughout the campus where we can retreat and work, so working in our rooms is not as essential.
All rooms single or double, share a bath. If you require an en-suite bath, there is a gorgeous local hotel, The Inn at Langley, where you can stay and still participate in all the retreat activities. If you are interested in this, please check in with our registrar for the board-only rate.
Meadow Cabins are new, built in a ring among the tall pines. They either have an adjacent bath, or share a nearby bathhouse.
Vintage Cabins and Cottages are more rustic. The cabins share the bathhouse (slightly further than the Meadow cabins) and the cottages have bathrooms on each floor.
room style | r/b per night | for the week |

Meadow Single | $207 | $1449 |
Meadow Double | $140 | $980 |
Vintage Single | $196 | $1372 |
